Introduction

It is what some people refer to as AGRI -BUSINESS. 

Most people get lost when they here about Agriculture business, What does it mean? What is it all about?

First, you will need to know what Agriculture is and what Business is, then what the combination means.

Agriculture :- This is the practice of farming and livestock keeping/ rearing.

Business :- A business is an organisation or enterprising entity engaged in commercial,industrial or professional activities. 

It can also be referred to as an organized series of efforts activities of individual or organization to produce and sell goods and services for profit. 

What is Agriculture Business?

This is a combination of the two most profitable economic activities in the world, that is; Agriculture and Business with the aims of making capital and delivering to the community by providing quality products/ goods and services.

Commonly, Agriculture Business is a two way traffic,meaning that the two economic activities are dependable to each other for Agriculture Business to exist.

Agriculture will depend on Business for various reasons and likewise Business has to depend on Agriculture for various purposes, meaning that for Agriculture Business to exist,both fields must coexist and work hand in hand.

Forms of Agriculture Business

1.)Poultry Farming

This is a form of Agricultural activity that deals with the keeping of domestic birds for meat and eggs rearing. This Agricultural activity will become an Agriculture Business activity if an entrepreneur decides to venture into the activity. 

The entrepreneur can be the farmer him or herself or another party outside the farming activities who will find a ready market for the eggs or meat produced for selling. 

The market can also be a poultry selling market where the domestic birds are sold as they are at different agreed prices.

When this is done,all this will be referred to as an Agriculture Business because the two have taken place simultaneously.  

2.)Tea/Coffee Farming

Tea and Coffee are referred to as cash crops, a farmer dealing and specialized with either the two needs a market for his /her products, this is where business pops in. 

Searching for a ready market and doing the business makes the whole series of activities an Agricultural business activity.

3.)Processing Company/Firm

An advantageous business man can take an advantage of a certain raw product produced by a farmer or farmer and start a processing company near the farm such that he will not run out of supply of the raw materials needed in his firm.

This is a very important type of Agriculture Business activity that is very profitable.

4.)Organic/Inorganic Fertilizer Production

A business man can come up with a quality fertilizer for farming activities, either an organic or inorganic fertilizer and sell it to a farmer at a certain price.

Likewise, a farmer involved in livestock and poultry farming can decide to store organic fertilizers and sell the fertilizers in bulk to another farmer involved in farming activities. 

5.)Distributing Fertilizers

In some cases, [like in point (3) above], the organic fertilizer produced may be very bulky, and where the farmer does not want to incur the transport cost, a business man may take the tender of transport hence make profit out of it.

This activity will also be referred to as Agriculture Business because agriculture and business takes place simultaneously. 

6.)Dairy Business

Livestock reared for milk purposes make a very good Agricultural Business, this is because the milk produced may be sold out making a profit.

Dairy livestock produce not only milk but fats and cheese, all this with a ready market more profit will be made out of this business. 

7.)Rearing of Livestock for sell

Some of farmers involve them in this kind of business. They only rear livestock for business purposes.

A business man acts as an intermediate between the farmer and the final consumer, the farmer may also get involved in this business directly linking with customer the available customer.

8.)Vegetables and Fruit Vending

A business man may get involved in the business of buying vegetables and fruits produce from a farmer and sell the produce to the targeted consumers with an added profit.

On the other hand, the farmer may decide to do this both in case the burden is not overwhelming.

9.)Ready Market Research 

A business man can get involved in searching for ready markets for a farmers produce and earn from it.

10.)Grocery Shops

This can be done by both a business man and the farmer himself but mostly businessmen carry out this activity. One can start and run a grocery shop when he/she has a steady supply of the goods he/she is handling such a ready farm for fruits.

Conclusion

In short, Agriculture Business entails the two activities working hand in hand. A farmer can also become a businessman if he/she does not get too overwhelmed and has a basic knowledge in business studies.

It is also advisable that a farmer maintain his field of specialisation for more produce and not get involved in vital businesses which would rather destroy his or her performance in agricultural sector and so are  businessmen advised.
