What is Organic farming?

This is an agricultural system which originated early in around the 20th Century   in reaction to rapidly changing farming practices.

Organic Farming is defined by the use of fertilizers of organic origins such as compost manure, green manure, bone meal, and places emphasis on techniques such as crop rotation and companion planting.

What I mean by organic farming, is basically farming without using agricultural chemicals such as insecticides and pesticides.  Many researchers have linked some infections and diseases such as cancers, with the use of pesticides and insecticides.

Benefits of organic farming

  •   Soil Management

Unlike Inorganic farming, Organic farming does not encourage the use of some chemicals (i. e  Insecticides, Pesticides) which will rather temper with the P H of the soil hence destroying the soil structure and ability to yield crops.

Insecticides and pesticides destroy some micro - organisms which live in the soil. These small micro -organisms help to bind to soil particles together and play a great role in soil aeration.

 Economical

Since there is no use of expensive chemicals, then the cost of management will be relatively low. This will help organic farmers make a great profit in their sales compared to that of inorganic farmers.

·         Environmental friendly

Organic farming is environmentally friendly hence has no effect on the surrounding, unlike inorganic chemicals.  Some of the chemicals in inorganic farming may pollute the water and air when exposed without safety measures. This may lead to infections such as breathing problems.

·          A healthy form of farming

It help reduces diseases such as cancers, mainly because there are no chemicals involved during farming. Inorganic chemicals used in inorganic farming may cause healthy related problems to human beings and animals.

·         Low Market Competition

Since most people in most parts of the world have adopted the inorganic form of farming, the organic farming products demand has risen over time.

·         Weed Management

This is the process of keeping weed seeds, and rhizomes out of the greenhouse by using sterile media," clean " plant materials, and controlling weeds outside the greenhouse.
Prevent weeds from going to seed in all areas of the greenhouse. Control measures include mowing outdoors, hand-pulling, and selected herbicides.

 Conclusion

Organic Farming should be farming of your choice in case you want or planning to start farming, it has worked in most countries and proven to be one of the best and productive.

Next time you go to the market to buy your foodies, consider checking or asking the seller if they are organic or inorganic.
